The Hardwick Situation

The Hardwick Situation

George Hardwick is known in the UK MMA scene as one of the most dominant fighters in Cage Warriors. After racking up two defences of his Cage Warriors Lightweight title, he earned his shot on Dana White’s Contender Series against Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady. Hardwick went on to lose that bout by unanimous decision. Being sent back to Cage Warriors, George was booked to defend his Lightweight title at Cage Warriors 169 in London on March 30th, but recently, issues arose that have cancelled Hardwick’s long awaited return to Cage Warriors.

In a recent TikTok video posted by George’s brother, Harry Hardwick, Harry states that George was on his way to the hospital for an MRI scan on his head. The results of said scan came back and reported that George has a broken jaw, leaving him out of his scheduled title defence. There is no word yet on how long George will be out with this injury, but it’s suspected to be a while.

However, recent news isn’t all negative for the Hardwick brothers. Harry Hardwick has been on a dominant run of his own in the Featherweight division. He is 4-0 in Cage Warriors and his most recent win was one of the slickest Rear Naked Chokes we’ve ever seen in the promotion. It was recently announced that Harry will be facing Zafar Mohsen for the Cage Warriors Featherweight Title. The title was vacated by Paul Hughes earlier this year when he moved up to Lightweight, leaving the shot open for Hardwick and Mohsen. With Harry at the top of the Featherweight division and Paul Hughes and George Hardwick towards the top of the Lightweights, the future of these divisions in Cage Warriors is looking very promising.
